Milk tea and bubble tea need a black tea that still tastes of tea after milk, sugar, ice and toppings go in. Assam is the classic answer: a malty, full-bodied leaf that brews dark and strong and keeps its colour through a lot of milk. That is why "Assam milk tea" is on menus from Taipei to Toronto, and why the plain black tea behind a chain's house milk tea is so often an Assam or an Assam-led blend.
CTC Assam has small, tight granules that brew fast and strong, which suits urns, batch brewing and kitchens that brew several litres at a time. Broken orthodox leaf gives a cleaner, brighter cup and suits teams that brew to order or want a more premium tea note. Many buyers sample both and choose by how the tea tastes in their own milk tea, at their own sweetness. We supply both.
