How toppings work

A premix makes the drink. A topping makes it boba.

This is the bit most first-timers miss — a premix gives you the flavoured base, but it's the topping that delivers the texture people queue for. Choose your base from our premixes, then add the right texture from below. Many drinks layer two.

Family 01

Popping Boba.

Real-juice spheres with a thin gel shell that bursts on the first bite. The crowd favourite for fruit teas, lemonades and yogurt drinks — vegan, with a satisfying snap.

Texture — thin gel shell, juice-filled core. Pops on bite.

Best on — fruit teas, lemonades, yogurt smoothies, slushies.

Family 02

Nata de Coco.

Coconut-water cubes — bouncy, lightly chewy and naturally subtle. They hold their shape over ice and let the drink lead. Flavoured in Hyderabad.

Texture — bouncy cube, gel-like, holds in ice.

Best on — fruit teas, milk teas, mocktails, smoothies.

Family 03

Tapioca Pearls.

The classic chew at the bottom of every milk tea. Cook the raw boil-pack at a 1:10 pearl-to-water ratio (boil, then steam), or microwave an instant sachet in 2–3 minutes.

Texture — soft outside, chewy centre (the "QQ" bite).

Best on — milk teas, brown-sugar lattes, slushes.

Prep — boil-pack 1:10 (boil + steam) · instant 2–3 min.

Family 04

Konjac Jelly.

Slippery, low-calorie jelly cubes from the konjac plant — lighter than tapioca, softer than nata. A clean finish that lets the drink lead.

Texture — slick, jelly-soft, melts on the bite.

Best on — green teas, matcha, light fruit teas.
