Beverage product development,
from your brief.

The Tea Planet develops and manufactures custom beverage powders, premixes, functional and wellness drink mixes and bubble tea toppings for brands that arrive with a brief. Our in-house R&D formulates to your target, you approve the samples, and we produce under your label at our FSSC 22000 certified facility in Hyderabad, India.

What we develop

Custom formulation, across the beverage range

Brands come to us for a product they cannot buy off the shelf: a new flavour, a different sweetness, a functional ingredient list, or their own version of a drink they already sell. These are the product types we develop and manufacture to a brief.

Already sell a product and want it made under your label from one of our existing formulations? That is private label & contract manufacturing. Building a bubble tea range? See private label bubble tea.

How it works

From brief to production

Six stages, in this order. Each one is agreed with you before the next starts, and nothing is produced at scale until you have approved the sample you will sell.

1

Your brief

The product, how it is served, your target market and price point, and any reference product or existing formula.

2

Formulation & bench trials

Our R&D team develops the formulation and runs bench trials on flavour, sweetness, dosage and texture.

3

Samples to approve

We send samples for your own kitchen or panel to assess, and iterate until you sign off on the one you will actually sell.

4

Stability & shelf-life testing

Where a new formulation needs it, stability and shelf-life testing is done at cost. The scope and the cost are agreed with you before any test starts.

5

Label & regulatory guidance

We supply the specification, ingredient and allergen declarations, nutritional data and shelf life your label is written from, with our view as manufacturer on FSSAI and export documentation.

6

Production & packing

Production on our own lines under FSSC 22000, packed under your brand, batch-tracked in our Odoo ERP and dispatched in India or for export.

Recent briefs

What brands ask us to develop

A sample of recent development enquiries, anonymised. They show the range; your brief does not need to look like any of them.

  • Caffeine-free botanical latte premixes for a wellness brand.
  • A private label popping boba with a custom hibiscus formulation.
  • Karak chai premix under a Gulf distributor's own label, in more than one sweetness level.
  • An unsweetened spiced chai powder.
  • Flavoured matcha premixes for a café brand.
  • Iced tea mixes under a retailer's brand.
  • A functional coffee premix built around a brand's own ingredient list.
  • Vending premixes for an office and canteen operator.
  • A ready-to-drink boba drink concept for our bottling line.
Before you send it

What a good brief tells us

None of this is required to start a conversation. The more of it you can answer, the closer the first sample lands.

The drink

What it is and how it is served

Hot, iced, blended, shaken or from a vending machine; with water or milk; the cup size and the taste you are aiming for.

The market

Where it will be sold

The country and the channel: retail shelf, café, online, foodservice or vending. That decides the label rules.

The starting point

A formula, or a reference

Your existing formula or specification, a reference product to match or improve, or simply the idea. We work from any of the three.

Ingredients

Must-haves and must-avoids

Ingredients you want in it and ingredients you want kept out, and any dietary requirement such as vegetarian or HALAL.

Your brand

Your product, your brand

Who the product is for, how your brand should come across, and how you would like it to reach your customer. Tell us in your own words.

Commercials

Volume, timing and price point

A rough volume, when you want to launch and the price per serve or per pack you need to hit. Ranges are fine.

Answered up front

Recipe, confidentiality and costs

The questions a brand should ask before development starts, answered plainly rather than left to the contract.

Formulation

Who owns the recipe

Proprietary formulations and processes remain ours unless they are transferred through a separate written agreement. If owning the recipe outright matters to you, say so at the brief stage and it becomes part of the commercial terms.

Confidentiality

We sign an NDA on request

Your brief, your reference products and your trial results are used for your project only. We sign a non-disclosure agreement (NDA) on request, before you share your formula or brief — just ask when you first get in touch.

Exclusivity

Ask, and it is quoted

A formulation developed to your brief can be held for you on agreed terms and volumes. It is a commercial arrangement rather than a default, and it is worth raising early.

Samples

Development samples

Sampling for a custom formulation is part of the development process. It may involve development charges and several rounds, agreed per project, as set out in our sampling policy.

Testing

Testing at cost, agreed first

Stability and shelf-life testing is charged at cost. We agree which tests are needed and what they cost with you before any test starts.

Volume

Contact us for MOQ

The minimum order depends on the product and whether the formulation is new or adapted from one we already make. We confirm it in the quotation after sample sign-off.

Label & regulatory

FSSAI and export paperwork, a manufacturer's view

We are the manufacturer, not your regulatory adviser, but we have made products for other brands' labels and export consignments, and we share what that has taught us.

Selling in India. You are the food business operator named on your own pack, so the final label and its compliance are yours to approve. The ingredient and additive declarations, the allergen statement, the nutrition panel and any claim wording all follow from the formulation, so we work through them with you during development rather than after it. We supply the specification, declarations, nutritional data and shelf life every line on the label is written from, and manufacture under FSSAI and FSSC 22000.

Selling abroad. We supply the technical dossier an importer's due diligence is built from: specifications, ingredient and allergen declarations, nutritional data, shelf life and certificates of analysis. We are APEDA-registered, the facility is FDA-registered and we are HALAL certified. The label has to meet the rules of the destination market, which you and your importer confirm. Several markets have their own page: the United States, the United Kingdom, the GCC, Saudi Arabia and the UAE; everything else starts at export & international.

Where it is made

Developed and made on our own lines

The same team that formulates your product runs the lines that make it, at our FSSC 22000 certified facility in Hyderabad.

The facility runs beverage premix blending at about 2 MT a day (milk tea, fruit tea, iced tea, coffee and specialty premixes), popping boba at about 1.5 tonnes a day, tapioca pearls, nata de coco, a syrup and concentrate line, a pyramid and pillow tea-bag line, and a ready-to-drink bottling line. Every production batch is tracked in our Odoo ERP from raw material to dispatch. Full details are on our manufacturing page.

Product development FAQ

Questions brands ask first

Who owns the recipe you develop for me?

Proprietary formulations and processes remain ours unless they are transferred through a separate written agreement. If owning the recipe outright matters to your business, raise it at the brief stage and it becomes part of the commercial terms rather than a question at the end. A formulation developed to your brief can also be held for you exclusively on agreed terms and volumes.

Will you sign an NDA before I share my formula?

Yes. We sign a non-disclosure agreement (NDA) on request, before you share your formula, specification or brief. Your brief, reference products and trial results are used for your project only.

What is the minimum order quantity for a custom product?

Contact us for MOQ. It depends on the product and whether the formulation is new or adapted from one we already make. We confirm it in the quotation after sample sign-off, and we will tell you which choices lower it.

How long does product development take?

There is no fixed timeline. It depends on how close the first sample lands, how many trial rounds it takes and whether stability or shelf-life testing is needed. Once we have your brief we give you a plan with each stage, so you can see where the time goes.

Do you send samples during development?

Yes. Nothing goes to production on a description: we send samples for your kitchen or panel to assess and iterate until you sign off. Sampling for a custom formulation is part of the development process and may involve development charges and several rounds, agreed per project.

Who pays for stability and shelf-life testing?

Where a new formulation needs stability or shelf-life testing, it is charged at cost. We agree which tests are needed and what they cost with you before any test starts.

Can you work from my existing formula or a reference product?

Yes. Bring your formula or specification, a reference product to match or improve, or just the idea. Our R&D team runs bench trials on our own lines and ingredients and sends samples for you to approve.

Can you help with FSSAI and export labelling?

We supply the specification, ingredient and allergen declarations, nutritional data and shelf life your label is written from, and share our view as the manufacturer on FSSAI and export documentation. You are the food business operator named on your own pack, so final label approval and compliance in your market are yours.
