Popping boba is the one boba topping that needs no kitchen. There is no boiling, no hydrating and no holding window to manage — a pack is opened, drained with a slotted spoon and scooped straight into the cup. For a café running one counter, or a cloud kitchen with no burner to spare, that is the difference between adding boba to the menu and not.
Open the pack, drain the excess syrup with a slotted spoon, and spoon into the glass as a base layer or over the finished drink. Replace the lid and keep the pack refrigerated in its syrup after opening; it keeps until the best-before date on the pack. Recipe SOPs and staff training come with every order, so a new team can serve from day one.
Keep popping boba out of hot drinks. The juice-filled membrane is set to burst under the teeth, not under heat — in a hot cup it dissolves and releases into the drink. For hot menus, tapioca pearls are the topping that belongs there.
