Bubble tea kit at home: which boba kit to buy

A boba kit lets you make café-style bubble tea at home. This guide explains the three kinds of bubble tea kit sold in India, what is inside each, how to make it, and which one suits you.

The short answer

A bubble tea kit puts everything for a boba drink in one box or cup, so you can make it at home without visiting a café. In India you will find three kinds of boba kit: a single-serve cup for one drink, a recipe kit for making many cups of one flavour, and a starter package for a café. This guide explains what is inside each one and which to buy.

1. The DIY Boba Cup: a bubble tea kit for one

Our DIY Boba Cup is the simplest boba kit. Each 330 ml cup holds a flavour premix sachet, a sachet of instant tapioca pearls and, on Taro, Thai and Chocolate, a tea-creamer base sachet. The cup is the mixing glass, and a wide boba straw is in the pack. You only add hot water and ice.

How to make it:

  1. Pour 100 ml of hot water into the cup and stir in the creamer base.
  2. Add the flavour premix and mix until smooth.
  3. Add ice cubes to chill the drink.
  4. Warm the tapioca pearls in a microwave for about 30 seconds, or in a pan, and add them.
  5. Stir and drink it fresh.

Matcha has no separate creamer sachet, so it takes one step less. For a creamier cup, use warm milk in place of, or along with, the hot water.

Four flavours are available: Taro (creamy and mild, the usual first boba), Matcha (earthy, least sweet), Thai (bold spiced black tea) and Chocolate (dessert-like). A cup is ₹149 including GST, and a pack of 3 of one flavour is ₹399 with free shipping across India. Cups keep six months in a cool, dry place with no refrigeration.

2. A recipe kit: a boba making kit for many cups

If you drink bubble tea often or want to serve it at a party, a single cup becomes expensive and you want control over sweetness, milk and toppings. Then buy the parts by the kilo. A boba making kit has three parts:

Each flavour page in our recipe library lists the products its drinks use. On those pages you can add the whole kit to the cart, and a complete kit gets 20% off at checkout. For example, the Taro kit brings the taro premix, a base mix, brown sugar syrup, black tea concentrate, classic pearls, two popping boba flavours and two nata de coco flavours together. Other kits include Thai Milk Tea, Matcha and Chocolate.

3. A starter package for a café

If you are opening a counter, kiosk or café, you need more than a kit. The Boba Business Package brings ingredients, recipes and setup support together. Read how to start a boba café and our bubble tea business cost calculator first.

Which bubble tea kit should you buy?

  • Never tried boba, or buying a gift? A pack of 3 DIY Boba Cups. Start with Taro.
  • A boba drink now and then, with no cooking? DIY Boba Cups.
  • Making boba every week, or for 10+ people? A recipe kit, or a premix with a pack of pearls.
  • Selling boba? The café starter package and wholesale pricing.

Tips for café-style boba at home

  • Use only 100 ml of hot water or milk. You are making a concentrate that the ice will dilute. More water gives a weak drink.
  • Dissolve the powder before the ice goes in. Powder clumps in cold liquid.
  • Warm the pearls. Straight from the sachet they are firm. Warmed, they turn soft and chewy.
  • Drink it fresh. Tapioca firms up as it cools.

New to the drink itself? Start with what bubble tea is, and see how tapioca, popping boba and nata de coco differ as toppings.
